Question n°1 : How are U ? What are U doin' today ?
SANANDA
: I am well thank you Julien.
Today I went shopping with my wife Francesca for some Christmas stuff.
Question n°2 : We saw your beautiful weddings pics ... are U a happy new married man ? How is the life with your woman in Italia ?
SANANDA : My wife has been my salvation. I am indeed grateful to be married and allowing growth to happen. To have waited until the age of 41 shows how afraid I was. I was very lonely as a single man. Now I have seen the light !
Question
n°3 : We are extremely proud to have this interview with you, because
we are long time "fan" of your style and voice! Thanks for that.
Can U please tell us what was the project with the recent musical project
"Wildcard" ? What was your first idea ?
SANANDA
:The idea of WILD CARD was to tie up musically the past of Terence and move
on into Sananda’s music which I am now free to do. Since I no longer
have to cut out 85% of my pie and turn it over to the monopoly I sleep better
as well.
There is nothing like owning your own work !
I was ready to release it already in ’98 but was opposed.
I was made to wait for 2 years until I was able to buy it back.
It has already become a catalogue seller.
Question n°4 : Recently, Sony music distributed a new "best
of" from your collection, do u participate to the elaboration of this
project ? Do U agree with that ? Are U still in contact with them, or is it
still the war ?
Please explain us.
SANANDA
: I have nothing to do with the ‘best of ’, best of what?
My thwarted ambition ?
My frustration?
The best of what Sony was left with after stealing all of my money?
The best of copyrights that a secret letter of direction says belongs fully
to Sony?
Sony killed Terence Trent D’Arby, I watched them and suffered as I witnessed
the nobility of his suffering.
Sananda Maitreya will not lift a finger to help resurrect him but I will lift
all of my fingers to help you resurrect your soul.
Question n°5 : U choose to distribute your music via different ways, different supports, etc (internet, independent label, ...) Could U explain us your point of view about the actual music industry ?
SANANDA
: The ‘actual’ music business is by and large wicked and evil.
It is built and supported almost entirely on theft.
Make no mistake ! It is being punished for its wickedness and there will be
no
Major turnaround until they repent, You have my word as a Maitreya on this.
Question n°6 : U choose the internet (http://www.sanandamaitreya.com) to do your promotion, to live your artist life, freely. What means "internet" for U ? Do U think it will be the future of the music distribution ? (Sananda gives regularly new songs on his site)
SANANDA : For me the internet is Pandora’s box, A gift from Prometheus ! It is our escape route out of hell.
Question n°7 : Maybe you will be a little upset of the repetition of this parallel (sorry, but) : "Your musical life and choices, are very close to Prince's ones (the singer)". Here, in France, we feel that. We think you are very close to the man (change name - war to majors - soul in the voice - genius - God - funk rock and soul - etc ...many many). Are U upset with this comparison ?
We saw U in a video, interviewed
in Paisley Park (MPLS) in 1988, do U still have contact with Prince ?
Do U speak each other about the music industry ?
Are U a NPG member ? (lol) and last one:
Do U ever record some songs with him? If not, why ? (terrible missing, a dream
for us ;) )
SANANDA
: Myself and Prince are both emissaries and aliens
We have never consciously sought to copy the other. Our creative egos wouldn’t
allow it ! We are obviously both pioneers, he by nature, me by default ! As
my musical elder he was one of my teachers.
The truth is that we don’t need to stay in contact because we are in
constant contact telephatically !
We are in fact both the same entity.
And it was the will of God that our wine be poured Into two different bottles
( there has even been some spillage into other Artists )
we are careful not to spend too much time toghether physically because when
we do ( and this is no lie ) Phenomena happens
And then the next thing you know The Government is on our case.
It was prophecised long ago That the time we are living in now would contain
a new type of Hybrid Being Come to help the world out of its pain, we belong
to this team !
Question n°8 : We like to promote the funk music at fonkadelica.com. Is it a music style U still like to play ? And, what do U think about this music, today ?
SANANDA
: I have always resisted helping other people put me into a cage : it is not
a tiger’s nature ( I was born in the year of the tiger )
I make Life Music and that is all.
For me music goes into two categories only :
- inspired
- and the usuall …bs…

n°9 : What are the recent albums you listen to ? And why ?
SANANDA
: I am listening a lot to ‘PITHECANTHROPUS ERECTUS’
From one of my teachers Charles Mingus.
I am still in music school and never stop learning and receiving instructions
from my masters. I also lake the latest Suede Best Of And I like Ben Harper’s
latest a lot. But right now mainly Mingus and Beethoven.
Question n°10 : Do you plan to play live, in 2004 ? In Europe ? and specially in France ?
SANANDA :Yes, I plan to tour in 2004 and it would simply be in the height of bad taste for me to avoid France. I am deeply fond of the french and their cultural depth.
Question n°11 : What is your musical future ? Next project ?
SANANDA
: I have 2 projects in the works currently :
one being Sananda’s ‘ANGELS & VAMPIRES’
I am incubating a new music : one that is not easy to categorize but very
easy recognize. it will be rawer, more full of fire and a little less polished
For right now I am bored with polished.
Question n°12 : Do U record a lot ? How many albums do U have ready to be eared ?
SANANDA
: I am always working, it keeps my mind off evil.
Now that I am my own master, as God intended every man to be, You will be
hearing a lot more stuff from Sananda Maitreya.
Question n°13 : Why did U never sell a "live" album ? A dvd ?
SANANDA
: With all due respect to your question, Beautiful soul, As far as Live albums
and dvds, Let Sony pick over the bones of the dead...
I am not a historian, I am a futurian !

everytime you want to play live, to give me some songs, cds, and even drink
a cup of beer or tea ! ;)
